Suit Up! The Game is About to Begin...

Welcome to Super Nova Stadium! Join other alien contestants in a ricochet battle at the Super Nova Stadium. Harness solar power to fuel your blaster, eliminate your opponents, and claim victory for yourself or your team.

Here we have the start of our game development blog which we will be updating weekly, so stay tuned for more awesome content. We are 11 UW-Stout game design students making a game for our senior capstone project. Super Nova Stadium is a first-person experience where you play as a charming alien that competes in a solar shootout for fame, fortune, and most importantly – fun! But there’s a twist; you have to bounce your shots off of walls in order to build up enough power, so aim for the most ricochets.

The game started as just a pitch called Bouncy Blasters. We had to narrow down our choice from pitches by every team member. With much debating and deliberating about scope and goals, we reached consensus and started to create an entire game experience around our core mechanic of bouncing projectiles. Everyone dove in and started answering the important questions: Who are our characters? Where are they? Why do they want to blast each other anyway? The backstory helped guide the design decisions. Their whole society is based on light, so their blasters should be too. Instead of bullets they use rechargeable batteries. Since it’s an athletic gameshow, the only bruise may be to the ego.
